New Balance Launches The Coco CG2

The Coco CG2 is made for the elite tennis athlete who makes explosive moves on the court.

New Balance and U.S. Open champion and current World #2 Coco Gauff officially announce an update to the star’s signature shoe. The New Balance Coco CG2 launches with the Power and Grace colorway on August 21st on www.newbalance.com, with the suggested retail price of $159.99. Consumers in NYC can visit the Coco’s Court pop-up event on August 23-24 for an immersive experience inspired by Coco’s favorite things and shop a pop-up exclusive colorway.

The Coco CG2 evolves and refines the court-ready performance and the distinctive features of the tennis phenom’s debut signature shoe. The second model takes inspiration from the 550s – one of her favorite styles – swapping the basketball on the woven tongue label for a tennis ball. The bold diamond knit mesh on the collar, heel and tongue and a triangular-patterned Ndure toe cap adds geometric-shaped design, stability and flexibility, a nod to the architecture in her favorite city, Paris. Suede overlays on the saddle allow for a fashion-forward style transcending beyond sport for wear on and off the court. The launch colorway combines two explosive colors, oxidized blue and firefly, for a fun twist inspired by the Statue of Liberty and the glowing lights of the city. The Coco CG2 mixes in more color and character than the first edition, matching the bright energy of the city that never sleeps.

“I had as much fun designing and collaborating on the Coco CG2 as I did with the Coco CG1,” says Team New Balance athlete Coco Gauff. My relationship with the New Balance team is incredible, and I’m excited to see what people think of the evolution of this shoe!”

Crafted with responsive Energy Arc technology, the Coco CG2 is made for the elite tennis athlete who makes explosive moves on the court. A multi-density FuelCell midsole, equipped with a carbon fiber plate, provides comfort, a propulsive energy-returning feeling and essential stability in all areas of the game. Window details at the lateral heel and on the durable Ndurance outsole reveal the shoe’s carbon fiber plate technology in a unique way.

The number two represents the most feminine number in single digits in numerology, signifying power and grace. For the second model of this shoe, “power” can be found on the back of the left shoe woven label, “grace” on the right shoe woven label and “CG” etched on the pivot point, capturing Coco perfectly. The launch colorway features a trophy on the back of the shoe as the reigning champion returns to New York to defend her title.

“There is no shoe in tennis quite like the Coco CG2, just like there is no athlete quite like Coco Gauff. We’re so proud of what Coco has done for the game of tennis on and off the court and how she continues to fit perfectly into the New Balance family,” says Evan Zeder, New Balance Head of Tennis Sports Marketing. “We are so excited to continue to support her journey as both a person and an athlete.”

As the youngest player to win the U.S. Open since 1999 and the youngest American woman to win an Olympic singles match since 2000, Coco Gauff is determined to pave her own path and use her platform for good along the way. The Coco CG2 is the third signature shoe for Team New Balance Women across tennis, running and softball and only the ninth signature shoe for female athletes in the sport.
