In 1985, then-developer Mark Parker and designer Tinker Hatfield were faced with the challenge of continuing to lead through innovation. Their solution, a disruptive sneaker design with visible Nike Air cushioning, was deemed a little too visionary. The concept wouldn’t come to fruition until two years later with the debut of the Air Max 1, sparking a revolution of Air. And the original design would never be seen—until now.
